Palatnik’s lab focuses on the biogenesis and activity of microRNAs and other small RNAs in plants, as well as how microRNA-transcription factor networks regulate cellular programs during plant growth and regeneration. The lab's research achievements have been published in prestigious journals such as Nature Communications, Nature Biotechnology, Molecular Plant, Nucleic Acids Research, Genome Research, EMBO Journal, and Plant Cell, among others.
The lab aims to uncover fundamental molecular mechanisms and develop practical tools for agrobiotechnology. Technologies developed in Palatnik’s lab have been patented and transferred to several companies.
Javier Palatnik has received several international awards in recognition of his contributions to science, including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, HHMI International Research Scholar, HFSP Career Development Award, and the Argentine Houssay Award.
Javier Palatnik is currently the Director of the IBR Institute and head of the RNA Biology Lab at the same institution. He is a professor at the National University of Rosario and serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and international societies.
